Hi there and welcome to Health and the City! My name is Shireen Farhadian, MS, RDN. I am a passionate Founder, Integrative Health Practitioner, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Holistic Health Coach and Healer. Here’s a little bit about my own personal health journey and why I founded Health and the City.
I struggled with my own health issues pretty much from conception. Being born with gut issues, eczema and allergies soon developed into chronic constipation, asthma, hormonal imbalances, mood swings and stubborn weight gain in my teenage years then chronic sinus infections, blood sugar imbalances, irregular bloating and menstruation by the time I was in my twenties. I had access to the greatest care providers all with a similar approach: treat the symptoms, hope for the best and accept my fate.
As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and health practitioner, I was better equipped to take the proactive steps toward finding alternatives and focusing on WHY my body wasn’t functioning optimally. Despite some skepticism and resistance, I eventually accepted a different fate: treating the root cause of illness can actually heal the SOURCE through Functional Nutrition, Yoga, Reiki and other Integrative Health modalities. This new way of life and perspective allowed me to intuitively address my body’s wants and needs while highlighting the importance of unconditional love for myself and my body. Which has now led me here...
My personal philosophy is that we all have the RIGHT and PURPOSE to live inside an optimally healthy body that is loved unconditionally. This brings me to our collective mission which is to treat each individual uniquely and intentionally through a client-centered approach, accounting for all eight dimensions of wellness. Whether struggling physically, emotionally, spiritually, socially, occupationally, financially, environmentally or intellectually, we can always maintain the perfect equilibrium between balanced health and a not-so-balanced city.
Yoga, Breath-Work & Mindfulness
Regardless of our age, physical movement, breath, connection to nature and general self awareness can impact mood, focus, stress, impulsivity, cognitive function and much more. Yoga, breath work and other mindfulness practices can lead to improved self awareness, gratifying relationships, sharper intuition and memory, stronger immunity and improved quality of life overall. Building these tools are essential in improving both physical and mental health as well as maintaining balance in life planting healthy seeds towards optimal health.
Jikiden Reiki
Cellular level healing from the inside may be the missing component inhibiting favorable outcomes of many conventional health practices. This Japanese hands-on healing method for the body and mind facilitates an individual's natural healing ability while giving the treated area and the entire body a "boost." It focuses on rebalancing energies, healing trauma wounds, cleansing the body of toxins, and recalibrating physical, emotional, and spiritual instability. This modality is generally safe for everyone, even infants.
Integrative Health & Nutrition
The term “you are what you eat” is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Using food as medicine while focusing on the nutritional status of each individual uniquely is key when considering one's overall health. Many times, this works in opposition with mainstream dieting and meal plans, which can be limiting in comparison to our comprehensive approach. We focus on balance AND moderation while bridging the gap between quality foods, essential supplementation and optimal intentional nourishment from pre-conception onward.
